Many a movie about possessions has been born since the days of The Exorcist, but not all of them ended up being...well... good. This one thankfully doesn't follow the path of the ones worse for wear, but it does leave a few questions to be asked. Little kids and creepy voices, moths and violent behavior, all mushed into a rated pg 13 film. How effective is it really? Read on.
Read MoreSimilar in spirit to films like Shaun of the Dead or Tucker and Dale, this guy has a quirky premise that I think a lot of folks feel fails to deliver on (judging by the Netflix reviews). I've never heard of it until it showed up on the new additions list, and considering the last movie I saw with Robrt Englund in it as a side part was Jack Brooks (which I thoroughly enjoyed), I figured let's roll with it and see how it is. Animal lovers beware - although shown violence against pets is rather limited, the implication that most all the furry cast becomes mole meals is pretty straight forward.

That's right, prices aren't the only thing to be getting slashed - Jason Voorhees returns in what is (at the time of this writing) the final of the Jason movies (also known to this point as the Friday the 13th series). I tell you what, having finished my quest of watching all of these things at long last, I can totally admit that this is in fact the most amusing of the movies from an entertainment standpoint, but we'll let you continue on to figure out why.

Granted, this movie is not an anime, but a live action movie that for intents and purposes may as well have been rotoscoped to look like an anime, because it certainly feels like an anime. Thor, the loveable canine hero of the flick. I had fully intended to watch this with a friend, but had to make sure that there was no doggy harm (as lets face it, body count means nothing in a movie to ninety percent of the human race, but as soon as any animal gets tagged that ninety percent starts burning DvDs in protest). Well, before you go any further, let me just say (to much spoilers) that Thor survives the movie.

Hero is the sequel to Zero , and if you don't for whatever reason want to watch the first, but want to fill in some of the blanks the trailer for Hero should provide you with all the main details that you need to know.
Read MoreLong before monsters invaded our world from the deep pacific, back further in our past then found footage of a strange giant creature attacking New York, there was one creature that struck fear into the hearts of man on a gigantic scale: Godzilla. The titled King of Monsters, Godzilla graced the world with the idea of giant monsters, and made such an impact it's even referenced in a song by the Blue Oyster Cult. Godzilla is also probably the single reason why I love the man-in-a-suit monster genre as much as I do. This particular entry, admittedly, is a bit in the "Millennium Branch" of Godzilla, but although the long-running series of movies has an over-arching plot between them, each can be thoroughly enjoyed as a stand alone title.
Read MoreImagine if you will a world without feeling, where anything that might cause feelings are banned and the very act of feeling is a crime punishable by death. This is a world brought to life in Equilibrium, a film that many who have seen it consider a bit similar to Fahrenheit 451 if in nothing else but concept. I've found it to be an often unknown movie, something that somehow - despite being an amazing movie - has slipped quietly under the radar of the masses for no logical reason whatsoever. Well, at the very least, I can do my part to remedy that right now.

With humor ranging from slapstick to some levels of more adult humor, it never ceases to keep you amused at the on screen antics. Heck, it even has some notable actors in it, such as Christopher Lloyd, Tim Curry, and Eileen Brennan. Easy to follow, safe for the entire family, and more quotable then your standard explosion-laden action flick, the only reason you might not have seen this one is because you aren't old enough!

Read MoreThe first movie to introduce many of us to the knockout trio of Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg, and Nick Frost in a great take on the zombie genre with a bit of british flair. Shaun of the Dead creates a goofy spin on the now humdrum zombie film, but without actually changing from those loveable Romero-esque zombies of olden days, instead using it's main cast to bring about the laughs - something it succeeds at. Considering there are zombies in it, and the requisite violence that such a creature would bring to bat, it's not one for everybody but to those who love themselves some of the shuffling flesh-hungry beasts, it's almost certain you have already seen it.

This bad boy is definitely not for the kids, however, containing some language, a bunch of nudity, and even more violence. I understand that I probably lost some of you with the disclosure that it has subtitles, but for those of you who are still present you already probably now that each foreign place has a specific charm to its movies - China has Kung Fu, Japan has a lot of weirdness, and India has Bollywood for example. Well, in this case we are stepping more into Bollywood, which opens up a couple of avenues that aren't usually there for the walking when I go into the review step (such as a bit more playful and intentional use of musical numbers), so it's really like a double-stage level of enthusiasm for this one. The only real thing that makes me not want to do this review is the inevitable horrible butchering of the poor actor's names I'm about to put forth...
Read MoreA surprise of a movie from way back when: a time of bell-bottom jeans, afros, and funk sharing a deadly little secret. There was a lot more thought put into this story then I at first glance would have thought (I kind of figured I was getting into a generic sea critter turned monster flick), and it would no doubt still be right at home on a giant wooden drive-in backdrop. I'm going to need and use some spoiler blocks through this to not spoil the fun little twists in the film though, so just be prepared to actually have to read parts of this if you want the free spoiled-version of the opinion.

From the get-go, Journey 2 lets you know that it aims to please in what one expects of a family film - a whimsical plot filled with imaginative visuals and eccentric characters, as well as the deep touching undercurrents of topics that some younger folks may not get. It rather much delivers on its promise to deliver as well, even if as I sit and watch it, I can't help but feel that the flick was oriented towards a 3-D experience over the simple 2-D plane I was watching it on.
Read MoreTaking the spirit of Discovery 's Shark Week into heart, I'd like to spin you a cautionary tale of knowledge about a misunderstood creature: B-movies are a much enthused genre of movies for folks looking for all manner of fun - be it stupid and grotesque, or intellectual and unique - but made on a (normally) less-than stellar budget. Over the years, these films have developed their own set of cliches and styles, which is sometimes emulated by producers who have a bit more money to throw at it than others (such as SyFy channel's notorious strings of original movies), while still retaining the low brow humor and fun often associated with them. Many are even made mockingly of more well known of higher budget films. However, in the existence of all these films, one groups stands aside as hands down the worst movies I have ever seen (seriously, they'd be as bad as Uwe Boll if it wasn't for the fact that I think they try to be bad intentionally) - and thy name is Asylum.

Well, most of the general reviews have it listed as "style over sustenance," and I think I can see why. To be frank, I don't expect this to be a long opinion piece like many of the other ones, simply just on the principle of what this movie is and isn't. As a last word to the forewords, let me just state that this is not a movie for the younger audience - if you wouldn't let them watch Game of Thrones (for example), then you will want them to stay very clear of this.
