K986 Terminal

In space, everyone can read your opinions.

A collection of reviews from multiple parties, along with some extra audio fun.

The Martian (2015)

March 23, 2017  /  Ken Rupracht

Since a crowd-favorite space franchise just launched a new game recently, why don't we get a little more close to home with some local cluster space action? The movie's gotten plenty of high praise form across the board - scientists, readers, movie going critics - so it's seem redundant that I review it. Like a man trapped on Mars doing his best to survive however, I too can be persistent in talking to myself. Grab your potatoes and grow your beard, let's check it out.

Gamera: Guardian of the Universe (1995)

March 16, 2017  /  Ken Rupracht

Gamera has always sort of felt like the little dorky brother of the generally more popular Godzilla. Between the constant massive inclusion of the "Kenny" character (heck, I think it's what coined the term), the "Friend of all children," and the fact that it's a flying giant turtle with rocket legs, why wouldn't it be? For the most part, I've always sort of found it hard to take seriously - not that I'm really convinced that it was ever meant to be. Still, I never ended up watching any of the later entries, so today I dabbed my feet into the murky waters of the 90's to find out just how well this giant turtle could be treated. I mean, can't be any worse than some of the other mutant turtles out there.

Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016)

March 09, 2017  /  Ken Rupracht

Upon closer inspection, I'm starting to think "Sam Neill has an adventure because of kids" should be an actual genre of movie. I mean, it just seems to happen an odd number of times to the guy who was also in Event Horizon and In the Mouth of Madness. Either way, Wilderpeople is another one of those movies that I heard about from about one reviewer and I'm not beyond watching a movie just because someone else though it was good (or bad). Put on your accentuated hat, and try not to be too insulting with your fake New Zealand accent, it's time for a movie.

Doctor Strange (2016)

March 02, 2017  /  Ken Rupracht

Two Marvel flicks in a row from the guy whose already stated numerous times before that he's burnt out on superhero movies? Yeah, well, stuff happens and the queue gives what the queue wants really. I also like to try and shuffle things in batches, so people don't get confused. It's a trippy digital world out there, with buildings that bend it like Beckham and alternate universes around every corner, and every little bit helps. Lets circle-ring our way into a universe where magic is simply funneling energy from other dimensions and gods are sort of just technologically advanced aliens to see if this strange doctor can put on a good show.

Ant-Man (2015)

February 23, 2017  /  Ken Rupracht

Most my opinions on this movie are already known from when I saw it in theaters and rocked out a Quick Flick piece. Still, opinions can change over time, and there's always a question of how little or large a change can occur. Do the jokes still hold the same charm? Does the effects work still impress? Do the actors have more chemistry than a science bench? Let's go a bit more in depth this time and find out some of the answers you never felt like asking.

Blair Witch (2016)

February 16, 2017  /  Ken Rupracht

I'd like to not say anything these opening bits that really can tell you what my main opinion is of a movie, because then you don't really have a reason to read. It's a bit redundant to think in such a manner, considering my propensity to not put up ads in my things for monetary gain. That doesn't stop me though, and this week we get blown back into the back-then machine and see another movie using almost the same title as the movie from which it was birthed. Although I wasn't a huge fan, it's predecessor sparked a newfound interest for many in the Found Footage genre - something some of us have been regretting ever sense, but that has also brought forth some good little nuggets. Can this revisit to the witch-lands bring is pride, or just the desire to burn at a stake?

The Nice Guys (2016)

February 09, 2017  /  Ken Rupracht

Buddy cop flicks are fun, haven't seen one in a while. This one came highly praised by a YouTube reviewer that I follow, so I added to the old list of movies to watch. It's day has arrived, let's see if this 70-style detective picture has enough heart to keep my thoughts in line with that reviewer's opinion. Maybe this time nice guys won't finish last?

Kill Command (2016)

February 02, 2017  /  Ken Rupracht

Robots have been a staple of science fiction forever. Good robots, bad robots, weird robots. I feel that, more so than others, the "robot controlled by an AI that wants to kill humans" is probably one of the most ventured ones - and really, why not? We humans are so squishy and destructive and annoying, what robot wouldn't think it great to wipe us out like Skynet, or enslave us for batteries? Today's entry offers more of them evil robots, and it asks us from it's retail box to please find out if Yoshimi will save us. I don't care if you didn't get the reference, we're moving on.

Independence Day: Resurgence (2016)

January 26, 2017  /  Ken Rupracht

Remember how nobody asked for a second Independence Day movie, and suddenly one day we all learned it was happening. Then it came out, and everyone was all just kinda "meh" about it? I mean, there was no real super bad talk of it, but not really any super good talk either. Still, I enjoy me a summer blockbuster style movie, so here it is for me to check out and gawk at. Let's dive in and check it out.

Chimes at Midnight (1965)

January 19, 2017  /  Ken Rupracht

This isn't my first foray into silver-screen flicks. I mean, I've gone back far enough before to have no dialogue outside of the written frames inserted in. This one does have audio though, so we don't have to buckle into our time machines for such a drastic jaunt. Where this one could be a challenge is in how true it may stay to Shakespeare. I'm not a huge literature buff or anything like that, but I've seen a Shakespeare flick before and not super my thing. Well, get on your grey-scale glasses and let's figure out if this is to be or not.

Keanu (2016)

January 12, 2017  /  Ken Rupracht

It's hard being a gangsta had to be on the line for a tagline at some point for this movie. If it wasn't someone really missed an opportunity. This entry is certainly a bit more than I expected- whether that's for the better or worse you'll have to read on to find out. Put the kids to bed for this one, it's time to quest for kitty.

Alien: Resurrection (1997)

January 05, 2017  /  Ken Rupracht

Today, we try something a bit different. It's a new year, so we are going to try out a bit of a new format - be it just for this one movie, or all them to come, I haven't decided. Regardless, what a better way to start this off then the last movie in the Alien franchise left for me to review. The special edition DVD has sat there next to the others for some time now, asking me to put it up here. Well, Resurrection, better take a shower because it's time for you to put on your best show.
