The World's Fastest Indian (2005)

May 11, 2023  /  Ken Rupracht

Based on One Hell of a True Story

I’m not a big race dude. I’m not a big automobile person - I use them and occasionally I’ll dabble in a game that lets me go real fast, but that’s really the extent of my general interest in the stuff - so tonight’s movie choice might come off as a bit out of nowhere on the slat flats, like a really good ninja. You know what though? It’s offered (at the time of writing this) to watch for free in numerous places, and it comes as a recommendation - and I do love the fact that recommendations have brought me to a good number of movies that are quite good and totally outside of my wheel house (har har) - so why don’t we strap up and see just what’s up with The World’s Fastest Indian.

Stand and Deliver (1988)

May 04, 2023  /  Ken Rupracht

At a tough school, someone had to take a stand...and someone did. Together, one teacher and one class proved to America they could...Stand and Deliver.

I love nothing apparently more than giving neck-snapping genre whiplash with the constant back and forth I do lately. I imagine it’s getting to the point where people wish i would perhaps tackle another lengthy franchise like Godzilla just so they could get their breath - but nay! On this day, we step to a genre that I’d wager I rarely actually step into - biography drama. Yep, tonight we get a “based on a true story” movie that doesn’t involve something totally made up and trying to be scary - today we get schools and the ultimate terror of humanity - math. Get your pencils and prep your inner nerd, it’s time to Stand and Deliver.

Scream VI (2023)

April 27, 2023  /  Ken Rupracht

New York. New Rules.

New entry of a series I’ve seen all the rest of? Well, I have to look at it don’t I? Would be a shame to not make more of something that I already like. Well first-pass guesses be the winners, or will we find out that we’ve lost the touch. Is it really we lost the touch, or did the movie just get better at freaking us out? Blend your numbers into your words, tonight we all Scream 6.

Straight Outta Nowhere: Scooby-Doo! Meets Courage the Cowardly Dog (2021)

April 20, 2023  /  Ken Rupracht

An original animated feature so exciting its scratching at the the door!

I found out about tonight’s movie by accident a while ago, then as I promptly do when I don’t write things down I forgot about it. When tasked with viewing pals to declare what we were going to watch tonight, I had a sudden idea that I pitched. It’s a pretty easy sale really, considering at least two of us grew up watching these shows - nostalgia is always an easy in for enjoyment. Gather up your bravery then readers, tonight we check out the utter mouthful of childhood that is Straight Outta Nowhere: Scooby-Doo! Meets Courage the Cowardly Dog.

The Hard Way (2019)

April 13, 2023  /  Ken Rupracht

It’s not a fight if there isn’t an exchange of blows.

Tonight we go back to the house of pain and get some wonderful hard hits. It’s go to throw in some simple action here and there so that we can all remember how wonderful it is to not get punched in the face by a mountain of a man with a look of disappointment on his face. It’s also a nice simple enjoyment that brings with it all those old classics, like one liners, revenge, and following through on threat-promises! That’s right, tonight we watch some bad guys learn why they are in the wrong The Hard Way.

The Lake (2022)

April 06, 2023  /  Ken Rupracht

A monster will rise

Felt like a monster movie tonight, and I happen to have one on my backlog that I had heard from somewhere that I don’t remember. Funnily enough I had re-watched the 2014 Godzilla just last night, so it seems like I’m just in the mood for some big old stompy boys. Given the choke-hold that the big G has on the market, I thought we’d swing on down to Taiwan for a bit - so don’t blame me for not saying names and mispronouncing everything I do try - tonight we go to The Lake.

Supercell (2023)

March 30, 2023  /  Ken Rupracht

The chase is on

It’s soon to be done being winter around here, which means we can trade out all the annoying cold for some warm and wet. The nice part about warm and wet is that although wet can be annoying, the warm opens up the possibilities for the old outdoor movie nights. One of the movies I’ve been waiting to watch out there is the old classic one about tornadoes. This isn’t that one, but I first learned about it when my cuz told me about a movie that a storm chaser he watches on YouTube had some footage of his storms in - so of course we had to go and watch it at some point. Reviews online are pretty numerically mediocre, but let’s see just who it is that might have the wind blown out of their Supercell.

Death on the Nile (2022)

March 23, 2023  /  Ken Rupracht

Murder was just the beginning

Put this one off for a while, largely because it’s me and I get cinematically distracted.Anyways, tonight we dive into a mystery on a river, where a corpse is bound to show up. A glamorous party for a rich wedding, and after a good while mystery is afoot - but it’s also got some folks I recognize and some I don’t, and it’s got that classic 20’s look, so it should be fun! Tonight, there’s Death on the Nile.

John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019)

March 16, 2023  /  Ken Rupracht

If you want peace, prepare for war

I’m pretty sure everyone - or at least a sizeable amount of anyone - is quite excited for the soon to drop John Wick entry. I am as well - even if I realize I can’t remember what was from chapter 2 and what was from chapter 3, and that might be a problem jumping into 4, so I think it’s time to get this site up to date with all the franchise before I go on to the next furious showing of action cinema. If you want peace, Parabellum.

Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind (2022)

March 09, 2023  /  Ken Rupracht

Time to get back your honor.

Time to wrap up the animated selection of last weeks’ choice. Gotta get it done up - after all, next week is the last logical chance to finish of the Wick franchise before the new one of those hits the theaters! Before we get too far though, this one’s a bit more interesting than the standard fare - well, at least it might not be entirely what you are expecting anyways. Ever got to watch one movie and find out someone spilled a bunch of another movie into it? That’s a little like what tonight’s going to feel like as we travel the wasteland of Snow Blind.

Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms (2021)

March 02, 2023  /  Ken Rupracht

The battle to end all battles.

Super long titles for super long franchises1 We love video games in this building, and although I’d make the argument I’m not innately a real violent guy, I do enjoy me some pretty brutal games. That being said, I also admit that I haven’t legit sat down and played an entry in this particular franchise since that N64 side-story staring a certain blue ninja, so I’m obviously way out of touch with the games and more in touch with the movies. Funny thing about that statement though - I found out I missed two animated movies! Well we’ll just have to fix that won’t we? Tonight, it’s back to the tournament with Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms.

Assault on Precinct 13 (1976)

February 23, 2023  /  Ken Rupracht

A White Hot Night of Hate!

I need to focus my brain so I can get myself to do more charity streaming this year. I may end up delving into some solo acts, which given the “decided” genre for the year means a lot of things that aren’t consistent with said “solo acts.” One might even say that it could be like the good thing you are trying to do is putting you against the entire seeming world outside of your building - like if you were a cop whose office was under siege from seedy types. What’s this though - am I seeing double vision? Oh, no, they just remade it at some point and I have to choose one - tonight we launch Assault on Precinct 13.

The Pale Blue Eye (2022)

February 16, 2023  /  Ken Rupracht

Every Heart Tells a Tale

I thought about doing a horror movie tonight, but opted instead to go with a mystery flick. Granted, I could have saved a half an hour by doing a horror movie - but sometimes long doesn’t mean taxing, and there’s mild hope that a little extra runtime will help the mystery element develop to it’s maximum intrigue. Anyways, to be perfectly honest, I misread the description and though this was supposed to be some alternate fantasy world where Sherlock Holmes teams up with Edgar Allen Poe to solve a murder, but quickly realized it’s just some guy like Sherlock teaming up with Poe to solve a mystery - so why don’t we sit down and find out the mystery of The Pale Blue Eye.

Bullet Train (2022)

February 09, 2023  /  Ken Rupracht

The end of the line is just the beginning.

Ever wonder what would happen if someone watched John Wick and wanted it to be more funny? Well you might be in luck with tonight’s colorful adventure into the world of hitmen and crime. It’s one part mystery, one part actioneer, and a colorful mix of characters, jokes, and near-cartoonish situations. Get ready for a long ride - tonight we get on the Bullet Train.

Boss Level (2020)

February 02, 2023  /  Ken Rupracht

Gone today, here tomorrow

A really fun movie was Edge of Tomorrow. It had another name, but I like the original name better - and that of course was something that derived from - at least in concept if nothing else - Groundhogs Day. Now, this is just a conceptual standpoint sort of thing, and evolutionary stand point to get to tonight’s movie - so I know all about where EoT actually got ripped form, but case in point there’s a lot of movies about repeating the same day ad nauseum, and tonight’s movie is another one such film. Much like the genre core itself, it seems these movies will never end, and to find out if that’s a good thing tonight we once more hit the replay button and take our best chance on the Boss Level.

Jung_E (2023)

January 26, 2023  /  Ken Rupracht

AI Combat Warrior Will be Unleashed

Science fiction night tonight baby. Since I’ve already thrown out the whole “trying to not do new movies in the long-format” thing, here’s a fresh off the press one from Netflix and some lovely folks over in Korea whose name’s I’d only butcher pronouncing them cause I’m bad at that. We’ve got robots, we’ve got AI, and we’ve got a very interesting looking trailer to pull me in. Tonight, we light up some yellow as we check out Jung_E.

Extraction (2020)

January 19, 2023  /  Ken Rupracht

Embark on the most deadly extraction of his career

If I’m being honest, I watched this movie when it first came out. I thought I had already done a review for it back when I watched it, but in typical me fashion I either live in a computer-world where my AI overlords are constantly altering things to mess with me, or I just thought I did and didn’t per norms. We’ve got some action, we’ve got some emotional strings, we got all sorts of things - including some fun facts that I learned on making of’s and that fun Stuntmen Reacts on YouTube. Get the crew together, it’s time to get to Extraction.

The Violence Action (2022)

January 12, 2023  /  Ken Rupracht

A young girl leads a double life as an assassin for hire.

I saw a trailer and cover art and went “Why yes, this looks like some fun.” I figured it would be a more Japanese, anime-influenced take on something like Gunpowder Milkshake. Oh man, was I off in that call. Strap in for some whiplash action and a crap load of laughs, tonight you’ll find yourself questioning The Violence Action.

Legion (2010)

January 05, 2023  /  Ken Rupracht

When the last angel falls, the fight for mankind begins.

I’m merciless with some of the tie-in stuff I do when it comes to logical steps in my thought chains. You see, one of my side gigs - really a hobby with slightly more effort invested - is charity streaming on my YouTube channel raising funds for a little outfit known as Extra Life - effectively raising money for Children’s Hospitals. For this year, I decide the theme was going to be horde games- you know, those cookie cutter games where you fight your way to an objective and then hold out against incredibly odds until you need to go to the next objective? Well, where all this ties in to tonight’s movie is really at the concept of that - get to an objective and survive the waves. Tonight things get slightly biblical at the apt named diner, tonight we are introduced to Legion.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (2022)

December 29, 2022  /  Ken Rupracht

A Rian Johnson Whodunit.

When it comes to new years, nobody ever knows what they will hold. One could say that there’s a lot of mystery involved with the closing of the old year and introduction of the new, and tonight we’ll play off that. You know I love to find my superficial reasons to watch movies that I’d want to watch anyways, but most the time it turns out fine doesn’t it? Let’s all agree with the director and leave the subtitle out, tonight we visit the Glass Onion.
