Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (2022)

December 29, 2022  /  Ken Rupracht

A Rian Johnson Whodunit.

When it comes to new years, nobody ever knows what they will hold. One could say that there’s a lot of mystery involved with the closing of the old year and introduction of the new, and tonight we’ll play off that. You know I love to find my superficial reasons to watch movies that I’d want to watch anyways, but most the time it turns out fine doesn’t it? Let’s all agree with the director and leave the subtitle out, tonight we visit the Glass Onion.

Violent Night (2022)

December 22, 2022  /  Ken Rupracht

You better watch out.

Tonight’s movie is straight off the press. I know I try not to do these normally because it’s almost always conflicting goals with not giving away a lot but still talking about all the parts that are favorites, but you can’t expect me to pass up what looks like a cater-made Christmas movie days before Christmas lands. Oh yeah, that’s right, tonight Santa is bringing a whole new level of punishment to the naughty list - tonight is a Violent Night.

Slumberland (2022)

December 15, 2022  /  Ken Rupracht

Every Adventure Begins with a Dream

I told you there was one that dealt with a book that I wanted to do, and here it is. I actually don’t know a ton about the book - indeed, funnily enough I know more about it’s existence because of an old game than I do the book itself. Still, I got the general idea of it from the premise - enough so to recognize it when I see it all modern-day and with Momoa slapped into it. Either way, I like me the idea of dreams and the crazy neat visuals that can come from it, and the family-grade rating tells me it shouldn’t be so excruciatingly heavy that I feel miserable after watching it, so let’s give our souls a break and see what’s happening over in Slumberland.

Warriors of Future (2022)

December 08, 2022  /  Ken Rupracht

Fight for tomorrow

Tonight we get a movie that I was hoping for for a while that Netflix finally brought over so I could see it. That’s right, turn on your subtitles and get your glasses, tonight we are going to hop a rail car to the futuristic action flick of Chinese blockbusters. Of all the movies I see, I would say China probably has the closest grasp to being remarkably similar to what you’d expect out of the corpse-god that is Hollywood. Don’t get me wrong, I love me me some Bollywood especially, but their in a league their own you know? Anyways, grab the powered armor suits and put them in your APC, it’s time to check Warriors of Future.

Wendell & Wild (2022)

December 01, 2022  /  Ken Rupracht

Makes the tummy tingle.

It’s been a while since I’ve watched a stop motion animated movie. Indeed, you barely see them come out these days - people have largely all moved on to the slightly less time-intensive forms of animation like computers. I don’t blame them, it’s a bit of an underrated art form in my book. Still, that does make it easy to peak my interest whenever I do see one come out, and honestly that’s pretty much all it needs right there. Tonight we get some Key and Peele smooth as clay, but let’s see how it will play out in Wendell & Wilde.

Tucker & Dale vs Evil (2010)

November 24, 2022  /  Ken Rupracht

This year spring break is cut short.

Alright, it’s that holiday where you spend time eating food and being thankful with your family. Well, it’s also a movie night, so great minds do what great minds do when pinched for time - they choose a movie they’ve already watched a ton and never did a review for, so they can review while they watch and watch while they review! Thematically this little horror comedy actually does fit kind of nicely with the idea of being thankful, as well as a whole lot of misunderstanding - so grab some of that pie and strap in for Tucker & Dale vs Evil.

The Curse of Bridge Hollow (2022)

November 17, 2022  /  Ken Rupracht

Halloween comes to life

Yes, October is over and this is a Halloween movie. If I’m being real, I just didn’t get around to watching this movie until today - it happens sometimes - and I spent a little too much free time tonight watching documentaries so this ended up being the best option to do unless I wanted to be up extra late writing up a review. We’ll be back to your regularly scheduled programing later on - I found a stop motion flick I’d like to check out, a sequel I didn’t know existed or was asked for, and at some point I should really rip through the Wick franchise on here - but for tonight, just bear with me. Let’s all settle in with the family and the pots of popcorn as we discover The Curse of Bridge Hollow.

Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (1997)

November 10, 2022  /  Ken Rupracht

Nothing will ever be the same.

My cousin hasn’t seen tonight’s movie. Now, normally I might be bothered to try and capitalize on Veterans day for some good old military action, but when I realized that tonight’s was a freebee on YouTube the deal was sealed. Through the combination of the universe saying “this should be remedied,” I decided that yes, we would make my cousin watch this movie and see just why the new Mortal Kombat was so appreciated.- tonight we watch Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.

Athena (2022)

November 03, 2022  /  Ken Rupracht

All this powder keg needs is a spark.

When you scroll Netflix and see a title that’s a word you recognize, so you open the description up and go “alright, sounds not bad” and add it to your watch list, you get a bunch of movies you have no clue what to expect. Yep, another Netflix Presents movie - one that only got my attention thanks to sharing it’s name with the Greek goddess warrior - although the name is somewhat where that dies out and then the description has to pick it up for the interest. It’s a foreign flick, but the absolute mad level of captioning and dubbing available means that even with my desire to not read a movie tonight, I could still tune in for watch. Tonight we spark a keg waiting to blow as we watch Athena.

The Cabin in the Woods (2012)

October 27, 2022  /  Ken Rupracht

You think you know the story.

The time has come! That’s right, I’ve refused to do this one as a long format for years - in fact, it’s the reason i created the shorter quick-flick format that I’ve used for newer movies. Well, tonight we are going to flip that out in celebration of me just wanting to watch it again - it’s been long enough without me doing it that I don’t think we have to really hold back about it anymore, so grab you extendable thermos and prepare - tonight we visit The Cabin in the Woods.

Fear Street: Part One - 1994 (2021)

October 20, 2022  /  Ken Rupracht

Three movies. Three weeks. One killer story.

I was super excited about this when it came out - I mean, at least as excited as I normally get, which is probably more a lukewarm “did you hear about that thing?” kind of excitement compared to others. Still, a three-part horror movie event that’s based on books I probably read at some point when I was a bit younger - who knows. Look, point is Netflix Originals still have a track record of not leading me wrong - probably in part because I only check out the ones that interest me in the first place, but a three part horror story sounded great to me. We’ll see if we hit the others for review or if we just leave it at number one -get ready to stroll down Fear Street.

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021)

October 13, 2022  /  Ken Rupracht

Witness the Beginning of Evil

There’s a long line of movies and shows attached to tonight’s entry. It’s not a specific situation of this one directly - but rather as a franchise it’s forked off to so many different things that if any franchise were to have massive in-fighting, I would expect this one would be the easiest. The funniest part of the entire situation is that more so than a lot of others, I’m familiar with this franchise and the attempts frequently pain me with how little they seem to care about it past the name drawing folks in - so how will tonight fare? Well, sit down and you are totally Welcome to Raccoon City.

Bad Ben (2016)

October 06, 2022  /  Ken Rupracht

Tom Riley thought he got the deal of a lifetime... What he got was a nightmare...

Tonight is time for a little experiment. I wanted to show my cousin, who I’ve previously forced (although I guess forced might be a bit over exaggerated) to watch an entry of Paranormal Activity to watch another found footage movie in the same vein and see what he thought of it. See, I love the concept of found footage, abut I always feel it’s done kind of cruddy - either it forgets what it’s trying to be and ends up being a worse movie for it, or it ends up feeling incredibly padded out by events being shown that don’t make any sense as to why they would be recorded. Both options brings the genre down, so when I found this little gem on streaming a while ago, i took note of it - and apparently I’m not the only one because they’ve made either more of them since then! Tonight, we download that cloud footage with Bed Ben.

The Black Phone (2021)

September 29, 2022  /  Ken Rupracht

Never Talk to Strangers

Never Talk to Strangers

It’s getting to be the spooky season, but that’s not really the reason for tonight’s choice. I mean, it doesn’t hurt really, but tonight is actually another rendition of “wait staff recommends”, in which case I’ve gathered some movie recommendations from a restaurant whilst going out for dinner. Just so happens that tonight lines up with both really, so let’s remember why we don’t talk to strangers. Tonight, we take a look for the phone that keeps on ringing, tonight we watch The Black Phone.

Dragon Blade (2015)

September 22, 2022  /  Ken Rupracht

When the eagle meets the dragon.

I see a trailer of Jackie Chan fighting a roman and I’m in. Simple man, I know, but nothing wrong with that you know? America isn’t the only place with sword and sandals style movies, and China never seems to have that same level of extra that makes them more fun, even though I’m sure some wouldn’t be as appreciative of it when you tag in that “based on historical events” label. Anyways, let’s go find out what happens when the eagle meets the dragon, tonight we watch Dragon Blade.

Morbius (2022)

September 15, 2022  /  Ken Rupracht

The line between hero and villain will be broken.

We know vampires. We know plenty of types and attempts of vampires. We know Spider man. We know all sorts of things - but the one thing we will never know is why out of nowhere someone wanted to make a movie centered on the comic character Morbius that most of us non-comic types probably know from Spider-man adjacent stuff like video games and cartoons. Anyways, people crapped all over this movie and turned it into a meme, so I expect it to be at worst mediocre going off past experiences - let’s check it out. Keep you blood in your veins and don’t go mixing with bat DNA - tonight we watch Morbius.

13 Assassins (2010)

September 08, 2022  /  Ken Rupracht

Take up your sword

Tonight we take up swords. Why do we take up swords? Well, largely because I like them - but in this case for the good of a people and a healthy dose of revenge. Comfy clothes, a whole mass of like-looking bodies clashing, tonight we get it all packaged with some hard-baked subs that will make you wonder why you are seeing double until you turn off the optional subs - get your swords on, its time for 13 Assassins.

The Grey Man (2022)

September 01, 2022  /  Ken Rupracht

The uncatchable meets the unstoppable.

I’m not really one for spy flicks, but this one had a pretty nice cast listing to it and bragged about having more action - and that’s speaking my language. Sneaking, subterfuge shenanigans can only keep my attention for so long, so I tend to stay away from the likes of the double Ohs unless I’m in a particular mood for their sass-filled attitudes and over-the-top evil villains. Well, only time will tell if I’ve made a misjudgement in the choice of movie tonight - let’s go and check out The Grey Man.

Prey (2022)

August 25, 2022  /  Ken Rupracht

Her big hunt just got a lot bigger.

It’s been out for a while, and I think it’s about time I finally get a spot up for it. I’m a franchise fan - one of the few franchises out there where I have gone and read comics, gotten toys and models and busts, read books - all on top of watching all the movies. Being a fan doesn’t prevent me from noticing flaws and pointing them out however - and about a week after this one came out I started seeing the headlines go from “flawless movie” right on over to “worst movie.” Fun fact, I had already watched it day one, so it’s been interesting holding back thoughts because I hate doing things when they are too new in this format because of potentially spoilers and the likes - but it’s been long enough, so lets go. Time to get feral, tonight we check out Prey.

The Matrix Resurrections (2021)

August 18, 2022  /  Ken Rupracht

It’s been another life, beyond the one…

There’s some contention towards tonight’s movie. Probably the main reason it took me so long to get to it was jsut that it’s two and a half hours long. That being said, the franchise was relatively agreeably on a decline - which in part was probably just because the first started so strong it was pretty hard to follow up, and the final might have gotten perhaps a bit too on-the-nose instead of background philosophical. Still, the trilogy was complete, people had moved on - and then out comes a new one, a new one we are going to check tonight - it’s The Matrix Resurrections.
