Unearthed (2007)
The wrath of nine hundred years is about to awake.
- Monster moves as though it is claymation at parts.
- Spin on alien monster.
- Delivers on "what would this movie look like without stage lighting" levels of darkness.
- Pretty cast.
- It's hard to like any of these characters.
- Can be so effectively dark you can't tell what's happening.
- Quite a few "Uhm, okay..." moments.
I really did want to like this movie, but for every moment I enjoyed those dumb characters would try to make me hate it. There is certainly some potential wasted here, and at times the plot can feel shoehorned into a certain path for the sole purpose of "we want this to happen, but we couldn't figure out why it should happen, but did it anyways." Still, I've seen movies with worse batters brought to plate, and the creature itself is somewhat interesting - if not heavily "influenced" by certain other monsters out there - and the attempts to use a "all but extinct" indian tribe to ground the events in some sort of in-movie mythology is a nice attempt to make things feel better executed. Really, the biggest thing causing this movie to trip is how poorly it handled the main cast of characters, and there's nothing to fault there except the script.
