Ant-Man (2015)

August 05, 2015  /  Ken Rupracht

This July, heroes don't come any bigger.

  • Funny.
  • Imaginative visuals (think Honey I Shrunk the Kid with battles).
  • Great support cast.
  • Wonderful main cast.
  • Felt much more enthusiastic than other recent super hero movies.
  • ANTony. Yes, I love puns. Deal with it.

  • In a way, the plot is very similar to Iron Man 1.
  • Some people complained it's not the original Ant-Man. I don't know the comics at all, so I'll just place it in here since some might get angry about that.
  • Still doing these annoying after-credits scenes. Can we please just put the end of the movie WITH the REST of the movie Marvel? Cripes.
Opinion

In my mind, this is what a super hero movie should be for a lot of scenarios. Look, a dark and gritty comic book movie can be fun - but you get sick of seeing everything in shades of black and shadow, with muted colors and a "real world" story. If I'm throwing my money down to go see a movie, there's at least part of me that's going as an escapist - to see things I can't in the real world for whatever reason, and the more entertainment I can get from that the better. Ant-Man succeeds on multiple levels in that regard - with humor, a good cast, and a plot that despite being so comical and light hearted has some very large repercussions should the bad guy win.
