The Magnificent Seven (2016)
Justice has a number.
- Well acted.
- Some nice jokes.
- Pacing feels good.
- Diverse cast of characters that all feel unique.
- Some minor continuity errors (such as horses changing colors between shots).
- It is a remake, so it has been done before - although I'd like to think it won't bother most.
- Not exactly a huge character drama where every character receives some form of character progress in big ways - don't expect huge backstories for every character.
Opinion
I haven't actually seen the first Magnificent Seven at the time of watching this, so I can't really say how it compares. As far as Seven Samurai goes it's a decent enough adaptation of a concept into a new genre. The cast is well put, and plenty of the "younger generation" that might enjoy westerns but not the actors of the "older generation" should find plenty enough to enjoy here. Action scenes are fun, and for the most part the heroes really put the magnificent into the title. All in all, it feels a lot like the classic Dungeons & Dragons gathering of heroes to combat evil complete with jokes, fights, traps, and that one guy who always makes passes at the ladies.
